Since 1993, the Integrated Development Foundation (IDF) has been a catalyst for social transformation in the rural regions of Bihar and Jharkhand. One of IDF’s flagship initiatives, supported by Mankind Pharma, is the Promoting Rural Opportunities & Solutions for Prosperity, Enrichment, and Raise (PROSPER) project. Operating in 15 villages across Jamui, Nawada, and Sheikhpura districts, PROSPER is designed to uplift 5,135 households, impacting a population of over 35,000. The project integrates livelihood generation, quality education, healthcare enhancement, and environmental sustainability to drive holistic rural development.

Innovative Solutions for Livelihoods and Education

With the support of Mankind Pharma, the PROSPER project has implemented a range of initiatives to boost rural livelihoods. Three stitching skill centers have been established, providing training for 90 women and girls to enhance their economic prospects. Additionally, farmers benefit from agricultural tool banks and training in sustainable practices, such as orchard development and artificial insemination for goats. Low-income families are empowered through innovative programs like backyard poultry farming and mushroom cultivation, ensuring stable and increased household incomes.

Education remains a cornerstone of the project. Schools in the region are being renovated into child-friendly learning environments with smart classrooms, enabling access to digital learning tools. These initiatives, backed by Mankind Pharma, aim to improve student engagement and academic outcomes, preparing the next generation for a brighter future.

Healthcare and Environmental Sustainability

Access to quality healthcare is another critical focus area. The project organizes health check-ups, awareness campaigns, and sanitary pad distributions, benefiting over 1,100 adolescent girls and improving overall well-being in rural areas. Furthermore, Mankind Pharma’s support has facilitated environmental sustainability efforts, including the installation of 90 solar streetlights and the planting of 1,500 saplings, benefiting a population of 35,000. These initiatives not only address local challenges but also contribute to global goals like climate change mitigation and clean energy adoption.

Strengthening Communities Through Capacity Building

At the heart of PROSPER is the empowerment of local communities. Sixty groups, including Farmer Clubs, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and Adolescent Groups, have been formed to foster solidarity and development. Training programs, such as goat-rearing workshops and financial literacy sessions, equip community members with the skills and knowledge to sustain and expand the project’s benefits. By involving the community in every step, IDF ensures the long-term success and sustainability of its initiatives.
