The PROSPER (Promoting Rural Enterprises and Solutions for Prosperity) project, in association with Society for the Upliftment of Villagers & Development of Himalayan Areas (SUVIDHA), and supported by Mankind Pharma, is a transformative rural development initiative aimed at uplifting underserved communities in Uttar Pradesh. Covering 20 villages across Jalilpur and Hastinapur blocks, the project directly impacts over 5,000 households, addressing critical challenges in healthcare, education, livelihoods, and infrastructure. With a focus on sustainable practices and community empowerment, PROSPER is creating a brighter, self-reliant future for rural families.

Healthcare: Building a Strong Foundation

Healthcare is a cornerstone of the PROSPER project, particularly addressing high infant mortality rates and malnutrition. By strengthening Primary Health Centers (PHCs), increasing healthcare accessibility, and promoting preventive care, the project is improving the health outcomes of these communities. Safe drinking water and water conservation initiatives are also in place, ensuring that better health begins with reliable and clean resources.

Education and Child Development

The project emphasizes quality education and child development by upgrading schools and Anganwadi centers. Comprehensive assessments identified institutions most in need, allowing resources to be directed effectively. Plans include improving classroom infrastructure, sanitation facilities, and access to learning materials. Meetings with School Management Committees (SMCs) and government officials ensure alignment with policy goals and support for impactful interventions.

Empowering Livelihoods and Farmers

To foster economic resilience, PROSPER supports sustainable livelihood initiatives. Farmers are trained in advanced agricultural practices, orchard management, and seasonal cash crop cultivation. During the reporting period, 1,350 fruit-bearing trees, including mango, guava, and amla, were planted by 18 farmers. Seasonal cash crop cultivation programs focus on profitable crops like potatoes, benefitting marginal farmers with small landholdings.

Livestock-based programs, including poultry and goat rearing, aim to empower families with reliable income sources. These programs provide training in livestock management, improving household nutrition and economic stability.

Women’s Empowerment and Skill Development

Gender inclusivity is central to PROSPER. Village Kind Committees (VKCs), formed with significant female representation, drive local ownership of the project. Tailoring programs identified 15 beneficiaries, providing skill-building opportunities to help women achieve financial independence. These initiatives are creating a strong foundation for women’s empowerment in the region.

Infrastructure for Better Living

Solar streetlights installed across all 20 villages have enhanced safety and accessibility, especially during nighttime. This eco-friendly intervention underscores the project’s commitment to sustainable solutions. Schools and ICDS centers identified as vulnerable are set to receive vital infrastructure upgrades, including classroom repairs, sanitation improvements, and clean drinking water facilities.

Looking Ahead: A Sustainable Future

Through its multifaceted approach, the PROSPER project is setting a benchmark for rural development. By addressing healthcare, education, and livelihoods, and promoting community ownership, the initiative is fostering a self-reliant and prosperous future for these villages. Supported by Mankind Pharma, PROSPER is not just a project; it is a movement toward creating inclusive and sustainable communities, one step at a time.
